Rafael Uribe Noguera
A rich man has been arrested for the kidnap, sexual abuse and death of a minor in Colombia. The police reportedly arrested the suspect on Tuesday, at a Bogota clinic one Rafael Uribe Noguera, over the murder of 7-year-old Yuliana Andrea Samboni, who was kidnapped from a working-class neighborhood in the city and whose body was found in an apartment of the man in custody.
News of the capture came from a police officer in a room at the clinic where the suspect, an architect age 38, had been admitted suffering a "crisis," according to a video released by the medical center.
The images show the policeman asking Uribe, a member of a wealthy Bogota family, to identify himself, then informs him that he is under arrest.
The case of the little girl has shaken Colombia because of the brutality of the suspected murderer, who abducted her last Sunday from Bosque Calderon, a neighborhood next to Chapiniero Alto, a well-to-do Bogota district.
He then took her to his apartment where he raped and strangled her, the director of the Legal Medicine Institute, Carlos Eduardo Valdes, reported Monday night.
"The cause of death of the minor age 7 was mixed mechanical asphyxiation, corresponding to asphyxiation by suffocation and strangling...Abundant evidence was obtained from the minor's body to prove she was the sexually abused," Valdes told a press conference.
The minor of the Yanacona ethnicity arrived with her parents in Bogota three years ago from El Tambo in Cauca province to escape the armed conflict there.
Outside the clinic where Uribe had been admitted, crowds of people began demonstrating Monday, and on Tuesday morning returned with placards inviting motorists traveling the North Expressway to sound their horns to demand justice in the case.
